With several sites around the city, the Bethesda Project provides shelter, housing, and programs reaching out to chronically homeless men and women. The Servant Year member serves as a case worker, supporting and engaging with Bethesda residents.
Christ Church is located just outside of Philadelphia in Media. The Servant Year member works with the church’s Christian Education and outreach programs to provide meaningful and engaging activities for youth and adults alike.
CBAP’s Fresh Start Legal Clinic is the only organization of its type in the Philadelphia region, affording clients the opportunity to gain access to legal counsel and stabilize their finances. The Servant Year member provides support to CBAP’s largely volunteer staff and interview clients.
The Youth Advisor works with Covenant House, a national leader in sheltering teenagers experiencing homelessness. The Servant Year provides case management services, supervises meals, and links teenagers on their caseload with job training and educational opportunities.
The Episcopal Mission Center (EMC) Coordinators invite groups to serve at social service agencies, churches, and schools across Philadelphia. Whether visiting for one week with a church youth group or taking an Alternative Spring Break with a group of college students, participants engage in mission and then reflect on their experiences with staff.
The Free Church of St. John is in the heart of Kensington, a neighborhood struggling with high rates of poverty, human trafficking, and drug use. The Servant Year member will re-start an school programming and develop new ministries to the neighborhood.
Saint James School is a faith based Philadelphia middle school in the Episcopal tradition, providing a high quality education for students in North Philadelphia. The Instructional Assistants provide positive mentoring and academic support to students, while the Volunteer and Outreach Coordinator ensures that Saint James has the people power for all of its programs.
The Servant Year member assists at congregational worship services, develops and implements Christian formation programming (including Sunday School and after school programming) and coordinates the church youth group.
The Ministry Residents either staff and coordinate volunteers at the weekly soup kitchen and food bank programs or explore parish ministry. Saint Mark’s has seen an increase in the number of people experiencing homelessness and hunger who attend their outreach programs, while maintaining a large and diverse worshipping congregation.
Seamen’s Church Institute (SCI) provides pastoral care and outreach for those working on boats in Philadelphia’s busy harbor. The Volunteer Coordinator recruits and trains volunteers, while also accompanying SCI’s Chaplain as he visits the men and women working on the ships.
Servant Year partners with Swarthmore’s Religious and Spiritual Life Office to provide support for the campus Chaplain. The member coordinates student groups and worship opportunities, as well as being involved in diocesan young adult programming.
Trinity Church is a vibrant community of faith just outside of Philadelphia in Gulph Mills. The Director of Christian Education coordinates all of Trinity’s youth activities, including youth group and Sunday School.
