9:00 am – 8:30 pm
Church of the Good Shepherd 1116 West Lancaster Avenue Bryn Mawr, PA 19010
Join us for a day retreat at Rosemont Community Retreat House to explore the implications of and solutions to anti-Judaism in Christianity.
Many issues have always and continue to divide Christians from one another. Yet one shared problem unites them all: the teaching of contempt for Judaism and Jews. Sadly, it took the Nazi Holocaust to open Christian eyes to this cancer in the soul of the church. This preached retreat will unpack Christian anti-Judaism, antisemitism, and supersessionism and their presence in scripture, preaching, worship, and sacred music. It will offer guidelines and suggestions for recognizing and at least weakening this sleeping giant and its potentially harmful effects on the Christian faithful and on Jews.
Presenters: Ellen Charry, Margaret W. Harmon Professor Emerita of Systematic Theology at Princeton Theological Seminary and Theologian in Residence at the Church of the Good Shepherd, Rosemont; Matthew Glandorf, Organist & Choirmaster at the Church of the Good Shepherd, Rosemont; Michael Marissen, Professor Emeritus of Music at Swarthmore College.
