Creating Parish Prevention Health Centers

Would you be interested in utilizing your parish as a community health and prevention center at no cost to you? (See below for short survey on how we can help you.) Our churches are staples and assets to the community. In our efforts to be active in advocating for social and economic equality, we are working toward having our parishes be points of access to care in addition to places of worship.

The Diocese is partnering with universities and colleges to bring continuous resources, classes, and services to the community.   Here are areas we are looking to bring to these parish prevention health centers. Keep in mind each parish can use these services differently to cater to the needs of their community AND neighboring communities.

  • Social Services
  • Mental Health Screenings, referrals for D&A or mental Health treatment, basic counseling, housing referrals, group sessions, information on understanding health insurance or resources, resource for at risk youth, support for caregivers of individuals who are differently abled, resources for veterans and their families.
  • Nursing
  • Basic screening/examinations, classes on various health topics
  • Education
  • Assist Episcopal schools build curriculum, classes/training on early development for teachers, special education needs, tutoring (language, sign language, specific subjects, etc.).
  • Legal Studies
    • Classes on aging rights, Differently abled rights, healthcare law, immigration rights, legal resources housing rights (free or for low income), LGBT rights, how parishes can be involved with legislative change

Please take our brief survey so we can gauge interest and needs. We need to get your input now as colleges begin assigning students into placements in late February (though students would not start until later.)
