Priest-in-Charge – St. Stephen’s, Norwood. St. Stephen’s is a transformational church that celebrates the liturgy in a relaxed and casual style. We are an inclusive community that values and fosters individual incremental growth into the potential that God has planned for us.
The weekly message/sermon is an integral part of who we are in Christ and recharges our spiritual vitality inspiring us to actions we can practice and take with us into the communities we serve.
Development of lay leadership is fundamental to our identity. Opportunities begin with our youngest members, as children are welcome to actively participate in worship and service. We have a lay leadership vision that cultivates an open, accepting environment where our young members can serve, not only as acolytes, but also on the vestry (beginning at age 16), if they are so called. We promote a supportive environment where one can explore new leadership roles and opportunities, make mistakes, learn and grow.
In addition to our year round Sunday School, we provide dedicated meeting rooms for local Girl Scout troops and we encourage young men as they advance through Boy Scouting to accomplish their Eagle Scout status. The St. Stephen’s Christian Preschool has recently expanded their exciting program to include more children, as well as extending their program from half day to the addition of a full day option. The Preschool values the lessons and services the priest-in-charge brings to that programming.
Like any family, we have occasional differences, but our way of dealing with problems is to address them immediately and respectfully. This helps to circumvent further issues and prevent hurt feelings. Our Priest-in-Charge can provide leadership in identifying and mediating potential differences that could impact our sense of well being and obstruct the achievement of our mission.
We are looking for someone to provide a weekly message and attitude that will promote a call to action for our very diverse congregation and inspire the parish to fulfill the aspirations of our mission prayer:
For the communities we serve give us generous hearts, oh Lord, that our inviting and including may create the spiritual home so many are looking for. Let us be that family of worship and mission where all can grow spiritually and serve joyfully in Christ’s name. Amen.
