Dear George:
I understand that you reported to the Diocesan Council at last night’s meeting that the Standing Committee “rejected” the proposal of the Executive Committee to meet.
This is an inaccurate statement of our response. I said that since there was not a specific agenda noted and we were currently handling a number of issues, that we wanted the meeting to wait until after our upcoming Open Forum for the Diocese occurred. It was thought that all Diocesan Council members might find the Open Forum helpful and that it might assist in identifying agenda items for a future meeting with the Executive Committee and Standing Committee.
We also wanted to include the Deans in the meeting and sensed resistance on your part to their participation. We continue to believe that the Deans should be included in this meeting. I also noted that past meetings between the Executive Committee of Diocesan Council and the Standing Committee had been helpful in building communication between our members and that we looked forward to renewing that communication.
George, I do not feel it is helpful to escalate the climate with inaccurate information. Hopefully we can get beyond this and move ahead for the good of the Diocese.
