God’s grace was abundant at last Saturday’s Garden Jam at Temple University’s student community garden in North Philadelphia. More than 70 youth and young adult leaders from Diocesan churches – The African Episcopal Church of St. Thomas, St. Michael’s Yeadon, Emmanuel Resurrection, Christ Church Ridley Park and Christ & Saint Ambrose – came to learn how to plant gardens, eat healthy and feed those who do not have access to fresh vegetables. Temple students demonstrated how to plant a raised bed; DJ Bam Bam (from Christ and St. Ambrose) rocked the garden shed; the Kensington CAPA high school choir blessed the gathering with their powerfully spiritual musical presence; Nancy Leville of Saving God’s Kids spread the Word; and seminarian Ben Capps led hymns of praise for the outdoor Eucharist. From digging in the dirt on a gorgeous spring day to lunching and learning about food scarcity, everyone had fun. Most fun of all? Giving back. The Diocese wants to thank everyone who showed up and all those who made the day possible for our young people supporting their growth in Jesus Christ.
