Standing Committee and Bishop Bennison Meet
August 24, 2010
On Tuesday, August 24th, at the regularly scheduled meeting of the Standing Committee, Bishop Bennison was invited to join the meeting to hear the Treasurer’s report, a discussion of the Episcopate budget, discussion of certain pending property issues, and to give his report. Bishop Bennison and the Standing Committee also spent time discussing concerns about how to move forward. Bishop Bennison stated that he plans to listen and observe. He complimented the Standing Committee and the other committees and commissions of the diocese on the fine job that has been done in administering to the needs of the diocese in his absence. He affirmed the bullet points in the Standing Committee’s open letter to the diocese that addressed the ministries that have been of importance in his absence, stating that these, all of them, were the things he had worked on prior to his inhibition and would be honoring and supporting in his return. He stated that he had met with both Bishop Michel and Bishop Lee and has made plans to keep both in place for the coming year. Bishop Bennison plans to make himself available to clergy, deaneries, parishes, or individuals as requested, including celebrating and preaching, but he would like an opportunity to speak with gatherings beforehand. He is open to invitations and will go where requested or be happy to meet those who wish to come to his office at Church House. He said he is working on a letter to the diocese which he expects to be sent out within a week. The Standing Committee discussed the matter of communications in the diocese with Bishop Bennison, feeling strongly that the website, having been open to all committees and commissions to make reports without censorship during his absence, should remain as such.
