Presiding Officer for Diocesan Convention

Concerning the selection of a Presiding Officer for Diocesan Convention
in November:

Article V of the Constitution of the Diocese of Pennsylvania states:

“If no Bishop be present the Convention shall then elect a President from among the Clergy.”

We, at least at this time, are without a sitting Bishop (Diocesan, Coadjutor or Suffragan). At Convention on November 8, 2008, the Rev. Glenn Matis, as President of Standing Committee will convene our delegates, and the Standing Committee will place the Rt. Rev. Allen Bartlett’s name in nomination to serve as presiding officer.

Needless to say Bishop Bartlett has had experience in this role and, we feel, enjoys both the gratitude and trust of us all in his ministry as Assisting Bishop Pro Tempore. We hope that his serving in this capacity will enable us all to work together in our deliberations with a spirit of greater trust toward the reconciliation that is ours in Christ.
