Alan Lindsay Named Church Foundation Executive Director

R. Alan Lindsay, a seasoned executive experienced in banking, corporate treasury, and corporate finance, and a long-time parish and diocesan lay leader, will become the Executive Director of the Church Foundation on November 1, according to the Foundation’s Board of Trustees.

A cum laude graduate of the University of Pennsylvania, Lindsay has a proven record of building relationships with bankers, investment bankers, and regulators He began his career with Girard Bank, specializing in international banking (1969-1983). Alan then moved to Mellon Bank, where he served as Senior Vice President for Product Delivery and then Marketing Services (1982-1988). At the Advanta Corporation he served subsequently as Vice President and Treasurer and then as Director of Corporate Finance (1994-1998). Most recently he has held a variety of positions at GMAC – Mortgage including as President and Chief Executive Officer of National Motors Bank, wholly owned by General Motors.

Lindsay, a member and Pastoral Leader of St. Paul’s, West Whiteland, has served the diocese as member of the Committee on Finance and Property. the Anti-Racism Commission, and the Diocesan Consultation team. He has been active on the Diocesan Council and in Cursillo.He has served as the Pastoral leader of Calvary Church, Conshohocken. “Alan Lindsay has a solid understanding of financial processes,” said Roberta Barsotti, a member of St. Paul’s, Chestnut Hill, and Chair of the Foundation’s Executive Committee.

“Alan was selected from a broad field of candidates because of his demonstrated ability to develop and manage operations in a risk controlled management,” said Roberta Torian, a member of St. Luke’s, Germantown, who chaired the search committee.

“Alan was baptized at St. Paul’s, Overbrook, grew up in the diocese, and knows it as well as any lay leader,” according to Charles Bennison, Bishop Diocesan. “Any of us who have worked with him know of both his agile mind when it comes to financial matters and his love for our diocese.”

Lindsay will have his office at Church House. The Church Foundation was founded in 1888 and is the designated trustee of funds and real estate for the Diocese. Its primary responsibility is managing the Consolidated Fund, a balanced fund with investments totaling approximately $100 million dollars.
