Parish Records Workshop
Dear Colleagues in Ministry
As historiographer of the Diocese of Pennsylvania, I invite you and/or your representative(s) to attend a workshop on parish records management that will be held on Saturday, December 3, 2011 at Cathedral Village at 600 East Cathedral Road which is at the intersection of Cathedral Road and Ridge Avenue in the Roxborough neighborhood of Philadelphia. The workshop will begin at 9:00 A.M. and end by noon. It will feature a session on the preservation of parish records and give those in attendance an opportunity to talk with like-minded people from other churches.
The Diocese of Pennsylvania is the oldest Episcopal diocese in America. Many of its churches have lengthy histories. But no matter how young or old your church is, its history is important. Perhaps you have been thinking about this history recently because your parish has just celebrated an anniversary or is about to do so. Parish records are not always well organized or carefully preserved and when they are not, it can be challenging just to conduct parish business much less celebrate an important anniversary.
Among the 143 parishes in the diocese there is a strong interest in history. Some parishes have commissioned books or written pamphlets about their history; many more have pages on their web sites devoted to it. Whether or not your parish is one of those, we hope that you will attend our December workshop because your parish is making history and will continue to do so in the years ahead. Let us help you maintain and preserve the record of that history.
Looking forward to seeing your church represented at our December workshop. If you have questions, please contact me by telephone or e-mail at any time.
Sincerely,

The Reverend Jean Mather
Historiographer, Diocese of Pennsylvania
Rector, Christ Church and St. Michael’s
