Leader for Christian Formation for Youth

The Christ Church community embodies both the Episcopal Church’s past and its future. We have a new full-time Director of Music to explore expanded worship possibilities and the pastoral ministry of music for youth, as well as recent renovations to historic Neighborhood House for housing programs for the parish and arts groups and others from the greater Philadelphia area.

Job Description for the Youth Leader

Qualifications: At least a four-year college degree. Preferably at least two years’ experience working with youth relating to their needs in spiritual, physical, emotional, and mental development. Ability to motivate and encourage youth involvement and parental support for growing the ministry. Must have excellent people and communication skills. Ability to work with minimal supervision, to be pro-active and flexible with the needs of the youth. Prior experience with the Journey to Adulthood program is desirable.

Responsibilities:

  • Youth Program administration, including cultivation and oversight of any assistants
  • Leadership for grades 6-12 on Sunday mornings, using the Journey to Adulthood program materials
  • Liaison pro-actively with the diocese, particularly the head of youth programming, to inform and involve our youth with diocesan youth events
  • Parent support and pastoral care
  • Advocacy within the congregation and vestry for youth programs
  • Confirmation program
  • Occasional additional events involving youth and parents as agreed upon with clergy
  • Coordination with the larger program for Children, Youth, and Family

Term of Employment:

  • Hourly rate, commensurate with experience and background
  • Average of 15 hours per week, including Sunday mornings
  • Program season of September 12 through mid-June (July-August vacation)
