The decline of Mainline Protestantism, in terms of membership and status, has inspired more research than its ascent ever did. The phenomenon is well–documented and explanatory theories have emerged in the process about the erosion of the Mainline Protestantism and the concurrent rise of Evangelical churches. What Ellingson does in this book is to look at another dimension of this story and through a different lens. He looks not at the two trends, but at their intersection.

Update on the hearings regarding Bishop Bennison

On Monday, June 22, the Church Attorney filed, under seal, the Church’s opposition to Bishop Bennison’s motion for a new trial. Bishop Bennison’s reply, if any, is due on Monday, June 29. The Court has not yet indicated whether it will hold a hearing on the motion. If such a hearing is granted, it would likely occur in August or September, and would probably be conducted by telephone conference—with the media and the public excluded.

Wednesday nights at the park

Church House summer hours

The regular working hours of Church House are from 9:00 AM to 4:45 PM, Monday through Friday. These hours will continue through the month of June. Summer hours for 2009 will be in place for the months of July and August. During those two summer months, office hours will be 9:00 AM to 4:45 PM, Monday through Thursday, and 9:00 AM to 12:00 noon on Fridays. Church House will be closed Friday afternoons in July and August.

Nominating Committee Prepares for the Diocesan Convention

The Nominating Committee first met on April 14, to begin the work of identifying candidates for the Diocesan Convention in November. Standing Orders of Convention state that in no less than four months before each Convention, the Bishop shall appoint a committee of at least 10 communicants of the Diocese, at least five of whom shall be members of the Clergy and at least five lay persons to make nominations for all diocesan offices to be filled at such Convention.
