Update on the hearings regarding Bishop Bennison
On Monday, June 22, the Church Attorney filed, under seal, the Church’s opposition to Bishop Bennison’s motion for a new trial. Bishop Bennison’s reply, if any, is due on Monday, June 29. The Court has not yet indicated whether it will hold a hearing on the motion. If such a hearing is granted, it would likely occur in August or September, and would probably be conducted by telephone conference—with the media and the public excluded.

Wednesday nights at the park

Join us at Washington Memorial Chapel in Historic Valley Forge National Park on Wednesday evenings in July and August from 5–7pm. Grab a burger and hot dog, browse the used bookstore, take a guided tour, try the scavenger hunt, get a family picture taken, or shop in the cabin shop. Church House summer hours
The regular working hours of Church House are from 9:00 AM to 4:45 PM, Monday through Friday. These hours will continue through the month of June. Summer hours for 2009 will be in place for the months of July and August. During those two summer months, office hours will be 9:00 AM to 4:45 PM, Monday through Thursday, and 9:00 AM to 12:00 noon on Fridays. Church House will be closed Friday afternoons in July and August.

Nominating Committee Prepares for the Diocesan Convention
The Nominating Committee first met on April 14, to begin the work of identifying candidates for the Diocesan Convention in November. Standing Orders of Convention state that in no less than four months before each Convention, the Bishop shall appoint a committee of at least 10 communicants of the Diocese, at least five of whom shall be members of the Clergy and at least five lay persons to make nominations for all diocesan offices to be filled at such Convention.

The Standing Committee of the Diocese of Pennsylvania, acting as the Ecclesiastical Authority of the diocese, met with Mr. Ralph White, Jr., of Philadelphia, a former member of the Episcopal Church, on January 7, 2008, at the invitation of the Rt. Rev. Allen Bartlett, retired Bishop of Pennsylvania, who was then acting as Visiting Bishop pro tempore.

Stirring welcome for Pennsylvania’s new assisting bishop

With a celebratory service that included a brass ensemble, harpsichord and Baroque violin, cathedral singers and Negro spirituals, handbells, liturgical dance and poetry, Episcopalians in the Diocese of Pennsylvania welcomed their new Assisting Bishop Rodney R. Michel at a “ceremony of welcome” at Philadelphia Cathedral on May 31.

During our time together we will explore the riches of Byzantine iconography, its spirituality, and technique. The Fourth of July Parade—A Roxborough Tradition: The Independence Day Parade begins at 9am on Saturday, July 4th, at Manayunk Avenue at Lyceum Avenue. Marchers follow Lyceum Avenue to Ridge Avenue, before continuing the post parade hometown celebrations at their own Church and Sunday School picnics.
