Episcopal Youth Event in San Antonio, Texas

The Episcopal Youth Event Delegation 2008 is in its final stages of registration. Because this event only happens every three years, only those that have three more years in high school will be able to attend in 2011. If you have a promising youth with leadership skills in your parish please encourage them to come with us this year to San Antonio, Texas July 7 – 13. There will be over 1,500 youth and adult leaders from all over the globe gathering for this very important event.

What: The Episcopal Youth Event is fast approaching and the Diocese of Pennsylvania is committed in taking the best group of youth and adults from all over the diocese. The Episcopal Youth Event (E.Y.E.) will be held at Trinity University in San Antonio, Texas. Mandated by the General Convention, E.Y.E. is the second largest event in the Episcopal Church and the single largest youth event in the Episcopal Church.
It is attended by some 1,500 young people, adult sponsors, bishops, staff and resource people. E.Y.E. is an opportunity to meet other youth from around the world and experience the church on a global level. The event community gathers regularly as a large group for worship, program, music, and fun! Participants also meet daily with a small group. And there will be a variety of other activities, including festivals, forums, workshops, sports/recreation, and free time round out the schedule.
Theme: “Sown in the Heart of Christ” “Listen! A sower sent out to sow… for what was sown on good soil, this is the one who bears fruit and yields” (Matthew 13:3, 23) E.Y.E. aims to inspire and empower youth as Christian apostles. E.Y.E. is designed to be an immersion experience in the baptismal covenant and to extend the mission and ministry of the Church.
When: Applicants must be able to depart on July 7 and return on July 13, 2008.
Who: All youth that have just finished grades 9-12 and adult leaders/volunteers from all the Churches in the Diocese of Pennsylvania are welcome to apply. A rector recommendation is required for all participants. Scholarship funds are available. Applications must be received by March 31. There are only 25 spaces for this event.
Cost: The cost is divided into thirds as youth are sponsored from both their home parish and the diocese: $350.00 from Parish, $350.00 from Youth, Diocese pays $350.00. Total cost $1,050.00 this includes travel, lodging, food, program fees, and a group visit around San Antonio. Scholarships are available for participants and churches as needed.
