2008 Pentecost Revivalist

The historic African Episcopal Church of St. Thomas announced today the 2008 Pentecost Revival dates: Wednesday, May 28th and Thursday, May 29th, at 7pm. This year’s theme is: “Remembering the Journey, Rejoice in the Blessings”. The Rev. Dr. Jeremiah Wright, retired pastor of the Trinity United Church of Christ, in Chicago, Illinois, will return for the third consecutive year as the guest revivalist.
Dr. Wright was born in the city of Philadelphia. After completing his education in Philadelphia, he left to pursue college at Virginia Union University. He later served in the United States Marine Corps and the United States Navy. Wright received his Master’s Degrees from Howard University and the University of Chicago Divinity School. He received his Doctorate from the United Theological Seminary.
Dr. Wright became pastor of Trinity United Church of Christ in March of 1972. Under his leadership, the membership of Trinity Church grew numerically and spiritually in large numbers. Dr. Wright has lectured at seminaries and universities across the United States and has represented Trinity United Church of Christ around the world. He is recognized as a leading theologian and pastor and has published several books and numerous articles.
The African Episcopal Church of St. Thomas is the first black Episcopal Church in the United States, founded in 1792. The first rector was the Rev. Absalom Jones, the first black Episcopal priest in the nation. The church is “an open, Christ-centered community of Faith in which the Gospel is taught, lived and spread”.
The present, and seventeenth rector, is the Rev. Fr. Martini Shaw, D.Min.
