Jill Mathis is a proud native of Philadelphia and a graduate of the Philadelphia High School for Girls. Prior to working for the Church, she worked for many years as a Legislative Assistant for the Senate of Pennsylvania and as an Urban League Program Director. She attended Western College for Women in Oxford, Ohio, majoring in Philosophy and Religion.
Jill is the Canon for Transition Ministry in the Diocese of Pennsylvania and has served on diocesan staff since 1990. Her responsibilities include working with clergy and congregations in transition, the diocesan ordination process, and recruitment of clergy. Her work outside of the Diocese, such as CREDO and Union of Black Episcopalians, allows her to meet new clergy throughout the year. She also assists congregations with Supply and Interims. Jill coordinates the Diocesan Fresh Start, a program for new clergy and clergy new to their position.
