The Diocese of Pennsylvania has taken up the task of considering incorporation as a means for facilitating the administration of the business and financial affairs of the Diocese. Other large, established Dioceses, including Massachusetts, New York and Chicago have moved to incorporate over the past several decades with many positive outcomes in the effectiveness of the ministry and business of the Diocese.
The reason to incorporate the Diocese as a nonprofit corporation under the laws of the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania is to achieve certain legal protections and conform in all temporal matters to the statutes of the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania. The intent is to achieve this without unnecessary interruption or change in established methods and procedures and without in any way affecting the spiritual aspects or the ecclesiastical functions of the Diocese as part of the Church Universal.
