WHAT IS NIGHTWATCH?

Nightwatch is a single-night event offered in the Diocese of Pennsylvania during Advent and Lent. Nightwatch invites young people from around the Diocese together for fellowship and to engage in spiritual practices related to themes of the liturgical season. The program includes a curated Eucharist, games, snacks, breakfast on Saturday, and more. Doors open at 7:00 PM on Friday night and the event ends no later than 10 AM on Saturday morning.

WHEN IS NIGHTWATCH?

For the 2016-2017 program year, Nightwatch will be held on the following dates:
Advent Nightwatch: December 9-10, 2016 at St. Luke’s, Germantown
Lent Nightwatch: March 17-18, 2017 at St. Mary’s, Ardmore

WHAT IS A CURATED EUCHARIST?

A Curated Eucharist combines the beauty of the Eucharistic Liturgy from the Book of Common Prayer, and the creativity and encounter of an interactive art exhibit. The Eucharist follows Rite II, until it comes to the Liturgy of the Word.  Here the individual members are invited into explore the unique stations set up throughout the liturgical space.  These stations incorporate Scripture, reflection questions and an interactive component (action, art, movement, etc.). After a period of time the young people are invited to come back together and share their thoughts and reflections as the sermon for the community. The Eucharist continues following Rite II. The goal is to allow young people to experience God deeply within the context of a recognizable and familiar worship service.

WHAT IS THE PROVINCE III YOUTH EVENT?

The Province III Youth Event (PYE) is a gathering of youth from Episcopal dioceses in the mid-Atlantic region. Province III is made up of 13 dioceses across the states of Pennsylvania; Delaware; Maryland; Virginia; West Virginia; and Washington, DC. PYE is an opportunity for young people to connect with others in their region, building community and exploring faith.

HOW IS THE PYE DIFFERENT IN 2017 THAN YEARS PAST?

Traditionally, we have held two PYE events a program year: one for middle school (grades 6-8), and one for high school (grades 9-12). In 2017, we are shifting to host one joint middle/high school event. We will also be switching the location of PYE for the first time in several years, meeting at the Claggett Center in the Diocese of Maryland
